Guerrilla Gardening

There was what I can only describe as a non-place at the end of our road. A scrap of land with a couple of benches, it was too unwelcoming and too unloved to be somewhere you'd want to spend time. That is until the ladies from the Stoke Newington Women's Institute sprung into action.

I came home last night to find the WI engaged in some Guerrilla Gardening and, for reasons that I didn't get to the bottom of, some of them had chosen to dress in 1940s clothing.

Like bandstand busking, which I wrote about here, this is another example of the optimism and sense of sharing that Richard Huntington wrote about in his post Reasons to be cheerful 1 2 3.

Anyway, thanks to the WI a non-place has become a proper place.
